Sumi Korean Restaurant on Victoria Drive offers a straightforward, full-service Korean dining experience that fits well into the local neighborhood rhythm. The space feels clean and spacious, with a relaxed, family-owned vibe that comes through in the friendly interactions and unpretentious atmosphere. It’s a spot where locals from all walks gather for familiar comfort food without the need to make the trek to the more bustling Koreatown areas.

If you’re coming for lunch or dinner, expect generous portions and dishes that don’t shy away from traditional flavors. Their seafood pancake (haemul pajeon) stands out as a notably thick, filling plate loaded with fresh seafood — it often surprises guests by being more of a small meal than just an appetizer. The black soybean noodles and bulgogi balance savory richness without overwhelming sweetness, offering familiar Korean tastes that locals appreciate.

Those looking for something heartier will find the gamjatang (pork bone soup hot pot) hits that sweet spot of warming and savory without heaviness, a comforting choice especially on cooler days. For groups or casual meat lovers, samgyeopsal (pork belly barbecue) with its accompanying side dishes creates a relaxed and social vibe, ideal for sharing a longer meal. Korean fried chicken and soy honey garlic chicken also attract repeat orders thanks to their crispiness and well-balanced sauces.

Sumi’s service rhythm suits those keeping to a weekday lunch break or early dinner schedule, where the staff tends to be quick and efficient without feeling rushed. The owner’s approachable, down-to-earth manner adds a homey ambiance that makes the space feel less like a typical restaurant and more like a community spot where smiles and familiar faces are part of the experience.

Visitors who appreciate authentic Korean dishes in a no-frills setting will find Sumi rewarding, particularly if they come with an appetite for robust flavors and sharing larger plates. It suits anyone who values comfort food from the peninsula with generous portions and straightforward pricing, set against a backdrop that balances quiet neighborhood calm with a steady hum of satisfied diners.

Korean food is always my top choice, and this place totally hits the spot — even without going all the way to K-Town! The food here is delicious, portions are generous, prices are fair, and service is impressively quick. Now let’s talk about the seafood pancake. Wow. It’s thick, packed with seafood, and ridiculously satisfying. Basically, it’s not just a pancake — it’s a full-on meal with a crunchy mission. Highly recommend! Bonus points for plenty of free street parking nearby — a true luxury in this city.

I was craving gamjatang and we were in the area so we decided to try out Sumi. So glad we found this place! Reasonably priced servings and comforting Korean dishes that hit the spot. The gamjatang was clean and the bulgogi wasn’t too sweet. Will definitely be back to try their other offerings.

We just found Sumi last month and we have already been here 3 times. It’s so good that we keep coming back!! very authentic Korean food, I love their Jjang bang so much. I saw a lot of people ordering seafood pancake, it is huge but kinda flaky in my opinion, I will recommend their Korean Fried Chicken more! Very big portions, you can take home and continue eating it for next meal So far we have tried seafood tofu soup, bimbimbap, bulgogi, and noodles, they are all delicious!

Ive been visiting Sumi for years. Very clean and spacious space. My favourite is 짜장면 & 냉면. Side dishes for 삼겹살 is pretty decent and generous portion too. The owner Korean 아저씨 is chill, humorous and kind. Seems like family owned restaurant. So their ambiance always makes me smile and comfortable.

A pretty good Korean restaurant. We came on a weekday evening, and the place was basically full, so I’m not sure if it still counts as a hidden gem. But the food was definitely delicious. I especially recommend their seafood pancake — the thickness is impressive, and they’re really generous with the fillings. Highly recommended!

Got takeout and all the dishes were securely packed in spill proof containers which is great for saucy and soupy food. All the dishes were solid for Korean food. Would highly recommend the seafood pancake which had lots of nice seafood in it and a perfect crisp. The soybean paste noodles and tteok bokki were good too. The rice portions could be bigger. Flavours of all the dishes were on point though.

We actually come here quite a lot (It was nearby my house). Mostly, we ordered their Jjajangmyeon (black soybean sauce noodle), Bulgogi, and Haemul-pajean (seafood pancake). The Jjajangmyeon was really tasty. The sauce was savoury and thick. Their bulgogi sauce was spicy and sweet. The seafood pancake was so huge, the toppings were also generous. The owner often works together with the servers. He was so friendly and heart-warming. This place was clean and cozy.
